Learn how to change who can download an MP4 copy of videos.
1. Enable Downloads at the Folder Level
In the following steps, learn how to enable downloads at the folder level, where any video in, or added to, the folder will be available for download.
From within the folder, select the Settings icon, a cogwheel, from the upper-right corner.
On the Settings tab, scroll down to Downloads.
Select the drop-down menu to the right of Download enabled.
Use site default: The folder will use the default site-wide setting as set by the site administrators. The site default will appear in parentheses to its right.
No one: The download button will not appear in the Panopto viewer.
Admins only: Only site-wide Administrators can download the video.
Admins, videographers, and creators: Site-wide administrators and videographers as well as the folder’s creators will be able to download within the viewer. This is the typical default option.
Authenticated users with access: Only users who have access to the video and are authenticated into Panopto will see the download button in the session viewer.
All users with access: Everyone who has access to the video, even if they are not logged in, will be able to see the download button in the session viewer.
Once you select an option, the Panopto site will automatically save your changes.
Viewers who were granted downloading access will now see the download icon an underlined, downwards pointing arrow, in the upper right corner of the Panopto viewer.
Note: Users that do not have the ability to download will not see the download button in the viewer.
2. Enable Downloads for a Video
In the following steps, learn how to change the download setting on an individual video.
Access your video's settings window by hovering over it in the folder and selecting Settings.
Alternatively, you can open the settings window from within the Panopto editor by selecting the cogwheel icon located in the upper right-hand corner.
On the Overview tab, to the right of Downloads, there is a drop-down menu with options for who will have the ability to download the video .
Use folder default: The folder will use the default site-wide setting as set by the site administrators. The site default will appear in parentheses to its right.
No one: The download button will not appear in the Panopto viewer.
Admins only: Only site-wide Administrators can download the video.
Admins, videographers, and creators: Site-wide administrators and videographers as well as the folder’s creators will be able to download within the viewer. This is the typical default option.
