Moodle 4.5 – An Introduction to the New Look: Course and Content View
Moodle upgrade to 4.5 will take place 12:00 a.m. to 6:00 a.m. on Wednesday, July 17, 2025.
Moodle 4.5 features a cleaner, more modern interface with a focus on improved navigation and user experience. At first glance you will notice larger font with a modern, in your face, attractive appearance.
Moodle 4.5 log in page will provide a more center aligned look. Just like in Moodle 3.11, the Log in Button will remain on the upper right corner of the screen.

Moodle 4.5 introduces a cleaner, more streamlined Course Page with improved organization and navigation. A less cluttered and more focused view clearly presents smaller, more accessible icons, and activities & resources that take up less space.
Lavender boxes: The “Gear” and left column selections like Participants and Grades have been replaced by tabs located under the course Name. Expanding and collapsing Module content is also available.
Grey boxes: Provides detailed breakdown of course Modules showing the content found within each Module, the purple box shows the specific content within the Module you are working.
Purple boxes: “Turn Editing On” Button has been replaced by the “Edit Mode” Toggle switch.
Icons: The updated icons and color scheme, while not changing functionality, contribute to a cleaner look and improved readability.

Moodle 4.5 brings exciting improvements that enhance the learning and teaching experience, including a fresh look and feel for the Book tool.
Purple Boxes: The static 'Next' and 'Previous' page buttons have been replaced with dynamic floating arrow buttons.
Lavender Boxes: The “gear” to Edit settings has now become a “tab” under the Book name
Yellow Boxes: The Table of contents – Editing Turned On- will look and function the same as the current Moodle version

In Moodle 4.5, adding activities and resources to courses has a new, streamlined look and improved functionality. The process of enriching courses with engaging content and valuable resources is now smoother and more intuitive. The interface for adding resources and activities has been refined to be more user-friendly, presenting activities in a clearer grid format to easily view and select.

Moodle 4.5 Forum offers a refreshed and more user-friendly experience, making it easier to navigate, engage with content, and participate in discussions.
The overall look of the forum will be tidier and more modern, with a focus on readability and ease of navigation. Moodle's ongoing commitment to accessibility means that the design has been optimized for users of all abilities. Multiple tool items are now available to customize Discussion responses such as, indention, font options, checking word count and accessibility and much more.

The Moodle 4.5 Gradebook interface has a cleaner, more streamlined appearance designed for enhanced usability. It provides robust filtering and search functions allowing for easier navigation and management of student grades. Assignment feedback can now be viewed within the Grader report along with student emails and ID numbers. The view of the gradebook is larger, however takes more scrolling to navigate through students and activities.
Purple Boxes – Gradebook tabs have been replaced with a drop down menu of the same gradebook views.
Grey Box – Students can now be searched or filtered by name.
Yellow Boxes – The gradebook is now accessed through a tab under the Course Name.
