Steps to Edit a Grade (Rubric-Based Assignment)
1. Log in to Moodle
Go to your Moodle site.
Enter your username and password.
2. Navigate to Your Course
From the Dashboard or My Courses, select the course that contains the assignment.
3. Open the Assignment
Click on the Assignment activity you want to edit.
This will open the assignment page.
4. Click "View All Submissions"
Located near the top of the page.
This opens a table with a list of all student submissions.
5. Locate the Student
Find the student whose grade you want to edit.
In the "Grade" column, click the "Edit" (pencil) icon next to their grade.
6. Reopen the Grading Interface
The grading screen with the rubric will appear.
You’ll see the rubric with your original selections and comments.
7. Edit the Rubric Scores
You can change which criteria boxes are selected in the rubric.
You can also edit comments for each criterion, if needed.
Moodle will automatically recalculate the total score based on your new rubric selections.
Note: You cannot directly type in the grade field — it is generated by the rubric.
8. Save Changes
After editing the rubric, scroll down and click:
“Save changes” to finalize the new grade, or
“Save and show next” if you're grading multiple students.
9. Verify the Updated Grade
After saving, return to "View all submissions".
Confirm that the grade has updated correctly in the grade column.
Important Notes
Rubric grades must be edited through the grading interface — you cannot override the grade directly in the gradebook without detaching it from the rubric.
If the grade is overridden in the Gradebook, the rubric will no longer control the grade.
To reset rubric-based grading, you'll need to re-enter the grading interface and reselect rubric items.
