Steps to Enable a User Override

  1. Locate the Activity: Navigate to your course and click on the specific Assignment, Quiz, or Lesson you wish to open early for the student.

  2. Access Overrides: Click on the More tab in the horizontal navigation menu at the top of the activity page.

  3. Select Overrides: From the dropdown menu, select Overrides.

  4. Add Override: Ensure "User overrides" is selected in the dropdown (it is usually the default) and click the Add user override button.

  5. Search for the Student: In the Override user field, type the student’s name and select them from the list.

  6. Adjust the Dates: Change the Allow submissions from or Open the quiz date and time to the student's required start date.

  7. Save: Scroll to the bottom and click Save.

Key Considerations for Early Access

  • Restricted Access Settings: If the entire module or activity is hidden behind "Restrict Access" settings (e.g., it requires a previous task to be finished), the User Override for the date will not bypass those completion requirements. You may need to manually mark previous items as complete for that student.

  • Visibility: Ensure the activity itself is Shown on the course page. If the activity is hidden from everyone, the override will not make it visible to the specific student.

  • Multiple Students: If you have several students who need the same early access, you can click Save and enter another override to repeat the process quickly.
