Instructor Guide: Adding Coursera to Moodle 4.5

Overview

Coursera content is integrated into Moodle using an External Tool (LTI). This allows you to embed Coursera courses or activities directly into your Moodle course so students can access them without leaving Moodle.


Step 1: Confirm Coursera is Available

Before you begin:

  • Verify that Coursera is installed as an External Tool (LTI) in Moodle

  • If you do not see it, contact your institution’s LMS Administrator


Step 2: Add Coursera to Your Course

  1. Go to your Moodle course

  2. Turn Edit mode ON

  3. Click “+ Add an activity or resource”

  4. Select Coursera


Step 3: Configure the Coursera Activity

In the External Tool settings:

  • Enter Activity Name: Enter a clear title (e.g., Coursera: Data Analytics Module)


Step 4: Select Coursera Content

  1. Click “Select Content” (or similar button)

  2. Log in to your Coursera account (if prompted)

  3. Choose:

    • LSUA Continuing Education - Career Academy

    • LSUA Degree & Certificate - Students Academy

  4. Choose or Search a Specific Course

  5. Click the blue dot to the right of the course

  6. Scroll down and Click the Submit button

  7. You will be taken back to Moodle - ADJUST SETTINGS


Please Note: A Coursera activity will automatically be assigned 100pt grade in the gradebook. 



Step 5: Save and Display

  • Click Save and return to course

  • The Coursera activity will now appear in your course

Students can click the link and access Coursera directly within Moodle.



The Student Experience

  • Students click the Coursera activity

  • They are automatically authenticated or may be asked to Login - They will use LSUA username and password to access.

  • Progress and grades may sync back to Moodle (in enabled in the Moodle settings).
