Adding a Quiz to a Panopto Video

1. Open the Video in the Editor

  1. Log in to Panopto
  2. Navigate to your video
  3. Hover over the video and click Edit

2. Choose Where to Insert the Quiz

  1. Play the video in the editor
  2. Pause at the exact point where you want the quiz to appear
  3. Click the “Add a Quiz” button (usually in the top toolbar)

3. Add Quiz Questions

  1. A quiz window will pop up
  2. Choose your question type:
    • Multiple Choice
    • True/False
    • Multiple Select
  3. Enter your question and answer choices
  4. Select the correct answer(s)
  5. Click Add Question if you want more questions in this same quiz

Step 1: Add the Quiz in Panopto

(Quick recap with key setting)

  • Insert quiz into the video (as outlined before)
  • In Settings tab of the quiz, make sure:
    • ✅ Block advancing until answering (important)
    • ✅ Add at least 1 graded question

? This ensures a score is generated

? Step 2: Add the Video via Panopto Activity in Moodle

⚠️ This is critical — DO NOT just paste a link

  1. Turn editing on
  2. Click Add an activity or resource
  3. Select Panopto
  4. Choose the correct video

? Step 3: Configure Grade Settings (THIS drives completion)

In the Panopto activity settings:

  • Grade:
    • Type: Point
    • Max grade: (ex: 100)

? This allows quiz scores to pass into Moodle

✅ Step 4: Set Activity Completion Based on Grade

Scroll to Activity completion:

  • Completion tracking: Show activity as complete when conditions are met
  • ✅ Require grade
  • ✅ Require passing grade (recommended)

Then set a passing grade:

  • Go to Grade settings → set (ex: 70%)

? Step 5: Tie to Certificate

In your certificate activity:

  • Go to Restrict access
  • Add restriction:
    • Activity completion → Panopto video must be marked complete
