If you want to create a single quiz that includes questions from multiple chapters (for example, Chapters 1 and 2), you can create a new category in the Question Bank to organize those questions together.


Step 1: Create a New Question Bank Category

  1. Open your Moodle course.
  1. Select More from the course navigation menu.
  1. Select Question bank.
  1. From the Question Bank dropdown menu, select Categories.
  1. Click Add category.
  1. Under Parent category, select the category where you want your new category to be located.
  1. In the Name field, enter a descriptive title, such as Final Quiz – Chapters 1 and 2.
  1. Click Add category to save.


You have now created a category where you can organize questions from both chapters.


Step 2: Add Questions to Your New Category

  1. Return to the Question bank.
  1. Select Questions from the dropdown menu.
  1. Locate the existing questions from Chapter 1.
  1. Select the questions you want to include using the checkboxes.
  1. Under With selected, choose Move to and select your newly created category (Final Quiz – Chapters 1 and 2).
  1. Repeat these steps for the Chapter 2 questions.


Important: Moving questions removes them from their original categories. If you want to keep the original chapter questions organized separately, you can skip this step and select questions from both categories directly when building the quiz.


Step 3: Create Your Quiz

  1. Navigate to the section of your Moodle course where you want the quiz to appear.
  1. Turn Edit mode on.
  1. Select Add an activity or resource.
  1. Choose Quiz.
  1. Enter a quiz name, such as Chapters 1 and 2 Quiz.
  1. Configure your quiz settings, including availability dates, time limits, grading, and attempts allowed.
  1. Click Save and display.


Step 4: Add Questions to the Quiz

  1. Open your newly created quiz.
  1. Select Add question or Questions to access the quiz editing page.
  1. Click Add and select from question bank.
  1. Select your newly created category (Final Quiz – Chapters 1 and 2).
  1. Select the questions you want to include.
  1. Click Add selected questions to the quiz.
  1. Review the questions and total points.


Step 5: Preview Your Quiz

Before making the quiz available to students:

  1. Open the quiz.
  1. Select Preview quiz.
  1. Verify that questions from both chapters appear correctly.
  1. Review the point values and quiz settings.
  1. Make any necessary adjustments before students begin.


Helpful Tip: You do not have to move questions into a new category to create a quiz covering multiple chapters. Moodle 4.5 allows you to add questions from different Question Bank categories to the same quiz. Creating a combined category is simply an organizational option.
